Obama and TFA

At the Youth Inaugural Ball last night Obama recognized young people for participating in service programs aimed at uplifting the poor and needy, and educating the youth like Americorps, the Peace Corps and Teach for America. Young people, Obama said, envision peace where there is war, an end to world hunger and poverty and togetherness.

Pretty cool to have a President who supports TFA!

DREAM

As I mentioned a few days ago I spent the morning watching the Inauguration with 4,000 + NYC students. It was truly a magical experience. No matter who you voted for it was moving watching these kids from Harlem and the South Bronx look up to a president that looks like them and seeing their future in front of them. It was amazing. I sat there during Obama's speech with a 2nd grader who has Sickle Cell Anemia on my lap. I will always remember this day.

May America continue to hope and dream...

Inauguration tidbit

Did you know that no matter when the actual swearing in ceremony happens (11:58 or 12:04, etc.) - Barack Obama will be our 44th president at 12:00 noon tomorrow! Under the Constitution, the old president continues to hold full power through 11:59:59, and then power shifts at noon.

Thought that was interesting.

January 20th

"The largest Presidential Inauguration event in Harlem."

"Community members will come together to witness and celebrate this historic transition of democratic power to a new administration. Thousands will gather together to enjoy dance and musical performances before watching Barack Obama deliver his Inaugural Address."

This event is where I will be with our 2nd, 6th, 7th, and 8th graders on Tuesday. I am so excited to have this opportunity and to be able to share it with my kids!
